Unlocking Success: Naval Ravikant’s 6 Forms of Leverage

One of the concepts that was reviewed during my recent mastermind retreat in Miami was the concept of leverage. 

Leverage is a concept applied in various fields, including finance, business, investing, and personal development. In a general sense, it involves using a relatively small input to gain a greater output or advantage. It can also be a means to effect massive change, action, or influence. 

In the world of personal and professional development, Naval Ravikant has emerged as a thought leader, offering valuable insights on how to navigate the complexities of life and achieve success. An entrepreneur and investor, he emphasizes that to be truly happy, one must seek wealth, not money or status. It is beautifully summed up in his most famous series of teachings here.

One that has to exert or exhaust much of their resources (e.g.:  time, effort, energy) to produce little results is less wealthy.  One who is in a low paying job trading their valuable time for money has no leverage.  On the flip side, one that invests their money and multiplies and/or produces passive income has leverage. 

According to Naval, there are six fundamental forms of leverage that can propel individuals toward wealth, and thus happiness: 

Code and Media: 
In the digital age, the ability to code and create media has become a formidable source of leverage. Whether it’s writing, programming, or producing content, these skills enable individuals to amplify their impact and reach a global audience. It has leverage because once it only has to be produced once, and it’s impact (and value) remains evergreen. 

Product: 
Creating a product that provides ongoing value is a timeless form of leverage. Whether it’s a physical product or a digital solution, a well-designed and scalable product can generate passive income, allowing individuals to break free from the traditional time-for-money model. Building something once and letting it serve a multitude of people is a potent way to unlock financial and personal freedom. 

Capital: 
Money is a powerful tool when used strategically. Naval emphasizes the importance of deploying capital wisely, whether through investments, partnerships, or other financial instruments. By making money work for you, rather than working for money, individuals can achieve financial independence and build wealth over time. 

Labor:
